Simone Alaimo was born in Villabate in the province of Palermo where he completed his literary and musical studies. After winning a competition, he attended La Scala's school of specialization for young lyrical artists in Milan for the academic years of 1977/78 and 1978/79. In 1978, he debuted in the title role of Donizetti's Don Pasquale. He has won first prize in numerous international competitions including: Voci Verdiane (Busseto, 1977), Achille Peri (Reggio Emilia, 1978), Beniamino Gigli (Macerata, 1978), Belcanto (Ostende, 1978), Toti dal Monte (Treviso, 1979) und Maria Callas (RAI, 1980).
He has sung in all the traditional Italian organizations and theatres and in the most important opera houses in the world. He has already interpreted more than 80 operas, in a repertory that goes form the 1700s to Verdian - Romanticism to contemporary music. He specialized in bel canto, especially in the great Rossinian roles, thus placing himself among the best bass-baritones in the world. He received numerous artistic awards as the best interpretor of Donizetti roles in neglected works (Torquato Tasso, L'Esule di Roma, Le Convenienze Teatrali, Roberto Devereux).
