A Short Biography

Ramon Vargas was born in Mexico City where the received his earliest musical training and sang in the Boys Choir of the Basilica de Guadalupe. He made his professional debut in 1983 at the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City in Puccinis Il Tabarro. When he won the Enrico Caruso Tenor Competition in Milan in 1986, he moved to Austria to continue his studies.
In 1992 he made his Metropolitan Opera debut. Specializing in bel canto and subsequent romantic repertoire, he has appeared at the world's major opera houses and is one of the most acclaimed tenor of the day.
